For our first official meet-up, we had Dr. Harsharan S. Bhatia, Spatial Omics Team Leader at the Institute of Stroke and Dementia Research, Helmholtz zentrum. The session began in the evening with some classic Indian samosas and chai. This was followed by a casual interview of our guest where he shared his personal and professional experiences as a life science researcher. Dr. Bhatia’s work is based on the elucidation of neurological diseases and aging, focusing primarily on stroke and dementia. His group is working towards the development of a 3D imaging technology called DISCO to achieve the highest resolution view of intact organs and bodies of rodents. This approach can be of great use in the field of biomedicine to provide an integrated yet unbiased view of the biological systems. Dr. Bhatia patiently answered each one of the audience’s questions which made it a quite interactive and useful discussion, breaking conventional conference frameworks.
